Challenge

A large manufacturing company faced rising healthcare costs due to low employee engagement in preventive care, which limited early detection of chronic diseases and led to higher treatment expenses. The company needed a solution to boost wellness participation, improve employee health and reduce long-term costs.

Solution

Hylant partnered with the client to implement UMR's Live Well Reward$ program, designed to incentivize employees to engage in healthy behaviors through financial rewards. Employees who accumulated a defined number of points during the program year earned significant per-pay-period discounts on their healthcare coverage for the following year.

The program used claims data to automatically award points. Employees could earn points by completing a variety of activities, including:

  • Annual wellness exams and preventive care screenings such as mammograms, pap smears, colonoscopies and prostate exams
  • Registering for cost-effective telehealth options
  • Participating in wellness coaching to achieve personal health goals
  • Completing financial wellness modules
  • Engaging in wellness challenges

The program added flexibility by offering multiple pathways to earn rewards, making it more appealing and accessible to employees. This approach allowed employees to choose their preferred route to well-being without mandating a medical exam.
