About the Artist
Krista Reuter is a Michigan-based artist recognized for her hand-cut and hand-torn layered paper creations. Her work explores light and shadow and how a two-dimensional plane can be transformed into a three-dimensional object. She enjoys using abstract patterns and shapes found in nature as themes for her explorations. She received her bachelor of fine arts degree from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and continued her education at the Royal College of Art in London, England. She has worked in fine art and fine craft galleries across the country. She was the program director for the Saugatuck Center for the Arts for six years. Her award-winning work is exhibited internationally.
About the Art
Fascinated by the infinite potential of paper as a medium, artist Krista Reuter blurs the lines between drawing and sculpture. Working with layers of paper, she builds undulating surfaces separated by air, allowing beautiful shadows to form from the edges. These shadows cast delicate lines or colors onto the next, appearing to flow and breathe as the viewer’s perspective shifts. As if to celebrate a moment of wonder, the work slows the viewer’s gaze and offers an intriguing effect that arouses curiosity and encourages a closer look.
