Innovation & Global Expansion

The 2010s were a time of forward-thinking progress, both culturally and operationally. Hylant embraced the digital age, earning accolades and reaching new heights in client service, business development, and global strategy. With the launch of the Global Captive Solutions Team, the firm expanded its reach beyond borders and into the future of risk management.

It was also a decade of reflection and purpose. Hylant continued its long-standing community commitments through the Hylant Family Foundation, and employees played a key role in shaping a culture that remains a competitive advantage.

  • Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (2010): This comprehensive financial reform legislation was enacted in response to the 2008 financial crisis. It included the Non-Admitted and Reinsurance Reform Act (NRRA), which standardized the regulation of surplus lines insurance and reinsurance across states.
  • Credit for Reinsurance Model Law (2011): The NAIC revised its requirements for collateral on alien reinsurers, reducing the amount of collateral non-U.S. reinsurers needed to post, thus facilitating international reinsurance transactions.
  • Wells Fargo Insurance Scandal (2016): Wells Fargo was found to have opened millions of unauthorized accounts, including insurance policies, without customers' consent. This led to significant fines and a major overhaul of the company's practices.

Around the World

  • Rise of Social Media: Platforms like Instagram (2010) and Snapchat (2011) changed global communication and content sharing.
  • 2016 U.S. Presidential Election: Donald Trump's election marked a significant shift in U.S. politics with his populist approach.
  • Technological Advancements: Innovations like virtual reality, AI, and smart home devices, transformed daily life.
  • Notre-Dame Fire (2019): The fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris drew worldwide attention and support for restoration efforts.
  • Edward Snowden & Mass Surveillance (2013): Snowden’s NSA leaks ignited global debates on privacy, government oversight, and digital security.
  • #MeToo Movement (2017): A viral reckoning with sexual harassment and assault, leading to high-profile resignations and broader cultural change.
