Strong Foundations: Celebrating Women in Construction Insurance

Women in Construction Week is March 1-7, 2026.

March 1, 2026

Since 1960, Women in Construction Week has celebrated the contributions of women in the field’s workforce. Today, more females than ever are making their presence known in the industry’s skilled trades, attracted by good-paying jobs that are also insulated from the impact of automation. A lesser-known but no less rewarding opportunity for women exists in construction insurance.

“Every day, our clients design, create and build on ideas that become real and remarkable,” said Christine Loiselle, Managing Director, Construction and Surety for Hylant. “And we get to be part of bringing those visions to life. Hylant has invested in the people, products, and technology to build a strong construction insurance and surety practice.” A practice that, uniquely, is nearly all female.

Experience That Shapes Stronger Client Partnerships

Current members of Hylant’s Construction Insurance and Surety Practice offer a combined 367 years of experience. Roles range from account executives who expertly help clients tailor effective risk management programs to their specific project and business needs, and surety professionals who secure bonds to meet compliance requirements and protect the project, to claim advocates who assist clients in resolving disputes and service team members who act as day-to-day partners, answering questions, placing policies, and ensuring clients have what they need.

“As a woman in the construction insurance industry, it’s incredibly meaningful when you realize you’re often stepping in as the steady hand someone needs in a critical moment,” said Megan Busch, Senior Client Service Manager. “Maybe it’s explaining why subcontractor insurance matters or demystifying a wrap-up program in a way that empowers an entire project team.”

She continued, “Knowledge is power, and helping clients understand the ‘why’ behind risk transfer isn’t just education: it’s advocacy. Seeing a contractor walk away from one of our tailored training sessions, for example, feeling confident, capable, and protected, reminds you why this work matters. And it’s exactly the kind of partnership and purpose that people want in their broker, and in their career.”

Technical Depth That Strengthens Every Construction Project

“We know construction inside and out, and that depth really shows in the way we support both our clients and their underwriters,” said Loiselle. “Because we understand how coverage plays out on real job sites, we ask the technical questions that uncover exposures others miss and make sure everyone is aligned on what the policy is really meant to do.”

“Insurance carriers often tell us our submissions stand out for being clear, thoughtful, and easy to work with, which makes their job easier and leads to better outcomes all around,” said Loiselle. “By bringing real insight and collaboration to every conversation, we help protect our clients more effectively while building stronger, more productive partnerships with carriers.”

Human Moments That Bring the Work to Life

While construction insurance is a serious business, one that requires technical proficiency to protect people, property, and projects from risk, it also has its lighter, more human moments. “I mentioned to a client that I used to live in California in a tiny town that I was sure she had never heard of,” said Account Executive Sandy Martin. “As it turns out, she was from that same tiny town and asked if I had ever been to its local bar and live music club. In fact, I used to be a member of the house band! It’s such a small world. Getting to know our clients is one of the best parts of the job.”

As we celebrate Women in Construction Week, we honor the talent, resilience, and leadership that women bring to every corner of the industry, from the job site to the boardroom, and yes, even to the specialized world of construction insurance and surety. At Hylant, we’re proud to support and empower women who help build not only projects but lasting partnerships and trust. Here’s to continuing to break barriers and create opportunities for the next generation of women in construction and insurance.
